One fine day, I was boarding the bus from work to go home. A lady who looked like she was in her 40s boarded before me. She was carrying a baby girl in her hands. Upon seeing her, the bus driver stood up and shout to the other passengers, "She is carrying a baby, who can offer her?"
At that point of time, I was so touched. It was peak hour, yet the bus driver show his care for his needy passengers. I was totally full of respect for the bus driver and was glad that there's still kind soul around in this country of ours.
However, I wasn't touched for too long. Not even one passenger reacts to the request make by the bus driver. Seeing no response, the bus driver asked once more with a louder voice, "She is carrying a baby, who can offer her? Anyone, please?" Silence filled the whole bus, yet no one did anything.
The lady slowly make her way to the back of the bus. Following closely behind her, I was observing those seated passengers. Most of them are strong able bodied people, yet when the lady passed by them, they either stare widely at her or pretend to look out of the window. Some simply continue to engage in their own conversations with their friends beside, no one stood up to offer her a seat. My heart felt a tinge of sadness immediately.
Finally, when we reached the back of the bus, (after the bus's back door), a female passenger stood up and offered her seat to the lady and her baby. In this city, this society, are we only left with people who simply cared for themselves and no one else? The care from the bus driver and the selfishness from the passengers was a big contrast. Think about this, warmth from the care of one person is not strong enough to defeat the coldness emits from the hearts of so many inconsiderate others.
