The story of US - 33th episode!

“A round of applause for the Champion of Halliburton Inter-School Championship, Walter Uni! Congratulations!”

The audience cheered as the team of Walter Uni stood at the prize presentation area as their captain, Aaron took over the trophy from the prize presenter.

“Next is the presentation of our MVP award. Let us cheer for Ted from Walter Uni!”

Aaron had been the MVP for the past two years; it didn’t come as a surprise to him that Ted would win the title this time. Ted was performing extremely well in all the matches from the opens to the finals. His shots accuracy increased tremendously. Aaron know Ted did it all for Joy.

Amidst the loud cheers by the spectators, Ted heard Ricardo’s bark.

“Woof! Woof! Woof!”

Ted ran over and Ricardo looked up at him.

With her eyes closed, Joy has the nicest smile on her face. She looked as if she was sleeping peacefully in her wheelchair. Ted held her hands. The coldness sent shivers down Ted’s spine.

“NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Ted screamed as he kneeled before Joy.

*************************

At the funeral, you could hear sobbing and words of sadness from everyone who was present.

“She was a talent.” “It’s our lost.” “She was such a nice person.” “Why does she have to leave us?”

In the background, there was a song being played on the recorder. It was a song composed by Ralph and sang by Naomi, titled “Joy”.

[Joy]
The day you left
Our world fell into complete darkness
The paths that we walked on seem so lonely
Those tears and laughter we had
You were there to share
How can we ever forget the friend we once had
Looking back, our hearts filled with regrets
What have we given you in return
Failing to realize that the world never stops revolving
Kept thinking tomorrow would come
We have lost you for good
Never to feel your breathe once more
Oh Joy!
You left us with memories that no one can replace
We know you would still be with us
To double your happiness, we would keep ourselves happy
In our prayers there would always be you
Thanks for letting us learn that time waits for no man
From now on we would treasure our loved ones more
And let joy resides in our hearts

Joy was the angel of Walter, always spreading her love to everyone. She’s a kind, caring, helpful, selfless and cheerful girl. Even during the last month of her life, she battled death without a sign of despair. The list of her positive traits goes on.

Almost every students in Walter Uni attended Joy’s wake. Joy may only be in year 1, she was well known to all. Everywhere she went, there bound to be happiness and laughter. Being in the song-composing club, she has composed quite a number of songs. Her songs were widely sung by Walter’s students, you hear them everywhere on the campus. That is how much they love her songs.

There were people from all walks of life at the wake; people whose lives were touched by Joy in one-way or another. Employees from Herbert Zoo who managed to find pleasure in their work whenever Joy is around. Her enthusiasm never failed to affect those around her. Patrons of Hartford’s Pub who have shared their laughter and woes with Joy whenever they visit her dad’s pub commented that she was the best listener and advisor they can ever get. All troubles seem to vanished into thin air after they talked to her and happiness always seem greater than it appeared to be when shared with Joy.

“Aaron, what can I do to bring Joy back to life? How am I going to live without her?” Agnes sobbed.

“Baby, listen to me. Joy is still with you, right here.” Aaron pointed to her heart. “She has gone to a better place where she would watch over all her love ones, and that includes you. Though she always put on a brave front in front of us, she must be suffering. You should feel happy that she’s freed from all pain now.”

“Renee!” Angie hugged her best pal upon seeing her.

“Angie, I’m sorry for your lost. You need to take care of yourself.” Renee led Angie to the chairs nearby and consoled her.

“My condolences to you, Jim.” Fernando patted on Jim’s shoulder. The usual friendly pub owner of Hartford’s Pub seems to have aged overnight. There were dark circles under his eyes and more wrinkles formed at the sides.

“She looks peaceful, isn’t she James?” Ted went to stand beside James and looked at his love lying in the coffin.

“Yah, she certainly does. She’s our angel. I was at the finals. You played a good game for Joy and yourself.” James gave a weak smile. “Joy fought a good battle too.”

The two guys stood in silence as tears welled up in their eyes.

30th December 1999 – A day before her 20th birthday, Joy passed away peacefully.

Even when Joy was sick and feeling weak, Ted and her family members were always on her mind. She left letters for everyone of them and in her letter to Ted; there was a song she wrote for him.

[My Lover]
Don’t cry my dear lover
Even though I may never wake up
The stars will still shine bright in the sky
My dream is the brightest of all stars
Be strong, I know you would be
You were my hero, giving me strength
Our fate may only come this far
Across the sky and over the sea
Our ever-lasting story many would see
The existence of true love
Bringing hope to every being alike
Never stop seeking
In time to come
You would find her
Do not be afraid to try
Love her with the heart
That used to beat just for me
Allow her to bring you
The happiness you deserve
She would be better than I am
Loving you more than I do
In heaven I’ll pray
For bliss to fall
Upon you both
