Fate 缘 Chapter 1
30th December 1997, Tuesday
“Dan, let’s break up.” Ash said with her back facing Dan.
It was a beautiful evening and the couple has just finished watching the movie, ‘til There Was You’. Ash has not been paying attention to the movie as she was thinking of how to express her decision to Dan. She finally plucked up her courage to say those few words when they reached her block void deck.
“But why? Have I done anything wrong lately?” Dan panicked.
“No Dan, it’d been four years since we got together. Feelings fade over time. I no longer feel the same towards you in this relationship. Let’s just move on, shall we?”
Ash has been practicing this speech since the night before. She was lying through her teeth. Deep down in her heart, she knew it better than anyone else that she still loves Dan as much as she does since the very first day they got together. However, her playful side is acting on her. She felt that she should be open to more choices and explore other available opportunities in the outside world.
“Ash, please do not leave me. You know how much I love you. We can always work things out.” The news came as a shock to Dan; he was not prepared for anything like this.
They have been so loving and enjoying their blissful life. It was only last month when the duos completed their “O”s and started taking up temporarily jobs while waiting for the release of their results. Though the results would only be out in a few months time, they already have everything planned. Being Virgos and the perfectionists they are they know clearly what they want in lives. Both of them have already decided on the course to take in Polytechnic. Ash is taking up Business Diploma while Dan wishes to advance in the IT industry.
“Dan, we can still be friends. I know it is hard for you to accept this right away but time would heal all wounds. I’m sorry but I got to go now.” With that, Ash dashed into the lift leaving Dan rooted to the ground.
Tears rolled down Ash’s cheeks the minute the lift door closed. She knew she had to leave or she would not be able to reject Dan’s plead. It hurts her as much as it hurts Dan. Dan treasured their relationship more than anything else and Ash enjoyed the love, care and concern he showered her. At the same time, Ash knew if her adventure in the outside world fails her, she always have Dan to count on. That was also one of the reasons why she took the plunge in making the decision to break up with him. She knew it was not right and it is being very unfair to Dan, she just could not help it.
