Hebe Tian - Insignificance 田馥甄 - 渺小
Finally Hebe has released her 3rd solo album.
As usual, my 3 steps process of reviewing a CD was being carried out.
First, play and listen to the whole album once to find out what kind of songs are being recorded in the CD.
Second, listen to the songs and look through the lyrics together.
Third, put on the ear piece / head set and feel the song.
(Trust me on this, listening to the CD using speakers and ear piece is very different.)
By the way, recently I read an article on "reviewing". Movie critics are usually the so-called professionals who DO NOT know how to even make/direct a movie. Why do we take them seriously?
Similarly, I'm not an expert in singing. The only reason why I review all the CDs I've bought is to share with my readers how I feel towards GOOD music.
You need not take me seriously but you may just want to use my review as a reference.
After listening to the CD for the first time, I'm glad to say, even though this is already Hebe's 3rd album, there is still surprise element in the type of songs she would bring to us and how she tries to master new ways of singing to bring out the essence of every songs.
Even if you do not like the way she sings, at least give some support for her trying.
As for me, I definitely love the way she sings no matter which style it is.
1st song - 渺小 (1st hit of the album)
After reading the poem, "Pod jedną gwiazdką" (在一颗小星星底下) of a female Poland poem writer, Wislawa Szymborska (辛波丝卡) Hebe asked her song writer to compose this song.
The helplessness of an individual, wanting to do more for this Mother Earth but with limitation. Hebe's voice brings out a sense of mysterious feeling in the song. Close your eyes, imagine you walking through the dark night alone with only the moonlight shining on you. You know not what's ahead except that walking straight is the only path left to go. With the uncertainty, fear arises and then helplessness creep in.
2nd song - 矛盾
I believe most of us have felt that way at least once. We want something, yet unwilling or do not bear to give up something in exchange. In the end, we messed up our lives and got back to square one. Then the vicious cycle continues. Well, maybe that is just how life is?
3rd song - 终身大事
I think this is the song Hebe wants to answer the whole world out there with. An answer for those who kept asking her why isn't she getting attached or married yet since Selina and Ella has already become someone else's wives?
In it, she mentioned alot of things she has yet to do and they seems more important than getting hitched or finding a hubby.
Then there are the uncertainties tomorrow might bring, so instead of falling in love, why not let her settle all the big stuff first and try the easy thing next?
4th song - 不醉不会
My 2nd fave song of the album.
Just like the title, Hebe sings with a wee bit of "drunkenness" in it. Yet, it was with power and clarity. And the rhythm is definitely one which you feel like shaking your head to when you are drunk.
Like what the song is trying to imply, sometimes you need to be drunk to learn more things and be clear.
You may start thinking differently and see things in a better light when you have a little alcohol.
(P/S : Recent research has also shown that non drinkers are more likely to die early than those who drink moderately.)
5th song - 你快乐未必我快乐
After the previous song, the rhythm of this song sounds like you are secretly making your way across to the living room and back to your room without waking up your family in your drunkard state.
This song is about how one tries to change him or herself to be the person he or she likes. However, that other party is also slowly changing to be the person they like too.
Slowly, one realizes that this kind of change is not bringing happiness to themselves.
6th song - 这个人已经与我无关
My fave song because it was really painful, truly painful.
It's like an arrow going through your heart and killing you slowly.
When you can't find the strength to truly give up, yet you cannot or do not want to let the other party to know you still care a lot for him or her.
I fell in love with this song the 1st time I listened to this album.
The lyrics brought so much pain, I feel it from the heart to every other part of the body.
It was like I'm living and going through the same situation I was in 13 years ago.
The pain back then, the pain I had when I finally decide to let go and the painful moment when the truth that it has happened and ended start sinking in.
7th song - 你就不要想起我
The stage of self denial and forcing yourself to lead a better life than the other party.
With a slight sense of revenge, some pain and a lot of questions unanswered, you asked yourself why this relationship has come to an end.
Then you leave with your last words, reminding the other party not to think of you.
Only then, will they know how painful it was to be in your shoes.
8th song - 无常
Every moment won't be like the previous moment, seeing the changes in things, you force yourself to be immune to the hurt a breakup has brought to you.
All you want is to lead a normal life and leave the past behind.
9th song - 爱着爱着就永远
The realization stage, love is simple and it has always been.
The sad thing is, feelings change, promises were forgotten and we do not have the courage to love.
It was also assumed that we lack the luck to have a love that will last forever...
10th song - 口袋的温度
Two lost souls trying to walk out of the broken relationship, found comfort in the other who can totally understand how they are feeling right now. The love attempted to be leave behind and the hurt hid behind the smile. With the new comfort found, they are ready to walk out of the lowest period filled with disappointment and regrets.
